Mistakes I Made (and Wouldn’t Repeat) - Lessons Learned the Hard Way from Building Frescolive
Everyone loves to talk about their wins—but it’s the mistakes that shape you.
Building Frescolive from scratch taught me a lot about product development, persistence, and patience. It wasn’t a straight line, and it definitely wasn’t smooth. But if you’re dreaming about launching your own product, maybe a few of my hard lessons can save you time, money, and frustration.
1. Waiting Too Long to Share the Idea
In the beginning, I kept everything to myself. I didn’t want anyone to “steal” the concept. But that mindset slowed me down. Once I started showing people—even imperfect versions—I got feedback that helped me improve it faster. Lesson: ideas get better when shared.
2. Trying to Do Everything Alone
I wore every hat—designer, tester, promoter, packager. That works for a while… until it doesn’t. Trying to juggle every role burnt me out and delayed progress. Once I brought in people with skills I lacked, things started moving again. Lesson: collaborate earlier.
3. Choosing the Wrong Manufacturer (Twice)
I trusted a vendor who said all the right things but couldn’t deliver consistent quality. Twice. Each time cost me months and money. Now I know: always sample thoroughly, ask detailed questions, and don’t be afraid to walk away. Lesson: vet your partners like your business depends on it—because it does.
4. Not Documenting the Journey
In the early days, I was so focused on building the product that I forgot to capture the story. I missed photo ops, notes, even videos that would’ve been great for branding later. Now? I document everything. Because your journey is your brand. Lesson: start storytelling early.
5. Thinking the Product Would Sell Itself
I assumed people would “get it” the moment they saw Frescolive. But they didn’t—not until I clearly explained why it existed and how it solves a real problem. That’s when things clicked. Lesson: the product is only half the battle—your message is the other half.
If you’re building something, you’re going to screw up. That’s okay. Just make sure you’re learning. Every mistake I made helped shape the version of Frescolive that exists today.
Make the mistakes—just make better ones than I did.
Have a question about launching your own idea? I’m just a message away.
